Yuganshi’s Story

A Small Beginning, A Beautiful BonD

When Nita and Devendra Meshram welcomed their baby girl, they expected to take her home and begin their new life as parents. But things didn’t go as planned. Soon after birth, their newborn developed breathing difficulties, along with signs of infection and trouble with feeding, and she was admitted to the NICU at Ganadhishay Hospital.

For this young couple from Guljar Pura, Maharashtra, this was their first child — and everything felt uncertain. Devendra, who works as a school bus conductor, had been supporting his family with a modest income for years. Sitting outside the NICU, waiting for updates, the days felt long and filled with worry.

Inside the NICU, their baby received constant care and support. She needed help with breathing in the initial days, including ventilator support and surfactant therapy, and was slowly introduced to feeding. Progress came step by step — not all at once — but enough to keep hope alive for her parents.

As the days passed, the situation became difficult for the family to manage on their own. That’s when Neonates Foundation of India (NFI) stepped in. With the support of donors, the family was able to continue their baby’s treatment without the constant stress of arranging funds.

Over time, something more than recovery began to take shape — a connection.

During follow-ups, the BEN-I team stayed in touch with the family, and the parents often spoke about how much the support meant to them. In a heartfelt moment, they even requested one of the BEN-I members to help name their child — a gesture that reflected their trust and gratitude.

Today, she is lovingly called Yuganshi Devendra Meshram.

Now a few months old, Yuganshi is doing well. She has gained weight — now around 3.19 kg, and is healthy across all parameters. She recently received her first vaccination, marking another small but important milestone. The family continues to stay connected with the BEN-I team, sharing pictures of Yuganshi in the clothes and hampers sent to them — smiling, growing, and full of life.

Yuganshi’s story is not just about getting better. It is about the people who stood beside her family, the trust that was built along the way, and a little girl whose journey began with uncertainty but is now filled with warmth and hope.
